BoBen Celebrates Prestigious LABC Achievement – Highly Commended Site Manager Award 2021

BoBen is proud to announce a significant achievement: receiving a Highly Commended Site Manager Award from LABC Warranty, recognising our outstanding commitment to construction quality at our flagship development, Bilton Fields. Work on the project began just before the Covid‑19 pandemic, and when the first lockdown hit in early 2020, we faced the real possibility of having to close the site and stand down our workforce. Thankfully, the government allowed construction to continue under strict safety measures—enabling our team to keep progressing safely through an incredibly challenging period.

About the LABC Warranty Awards

The LABC Warranty Site Manager Awards honour site managers who consistently go above and beyond to deliver safe, high‑quality developments. With over 3,000 active projects across England and Wales, only a small number of site managers receive recognition each year—making a high commendation a major accomplishment.

Despite the challenges of COVID‑19, LABC continued to evaluate construction excellence across the UK. Sarah Sheppard, LABC Warranty Technical Director and Head Judge, praised this year’s nominees:

“Even with the additional challenges posed by Covid‑19, the standard of qualifiers across the board once again has been exceptional, raising the bar for construction standards.”

Being selected from such a competitive field showcases the exceptional work achieved at Bilton Fields.

A Family Legacy of Craftsmanship

BoBen is a proud independent family business led by father‑and‑son team, Steve and Ben Curley, who share more than 50 years of combined experience in construction and civil engineering.

• Steve began his career working for his father’s building firm before studying civil engineering at Bircham Newton in the late 1970s. He founded his own company at just 22.
• Ben, continuing the family tradition, earned his degree in Building Surveying from Coventry University and joined the business in the early 2000s.

Together, they have delivered a portfolio of bespoke, technically challenging developments – always finding solutions, maintaining exceptional standards, and ensuring quality craftsmanship remains at the heart of BoBen Homes.

At the LABC Warranty Site Manager Awards, Steve and Ben received a Highly Commended recognition for their work at Bilton Fields – an achievement that reflects their commitment, expertise, and leadership.

Tackling the Challenges at Bilton Fields

Bilton Fields represents BoBen’s largest development to date – 12 architecturally considered homes built on a former farm, already surrounded by existing properties. The site came with unique requirements:

• Maintaining an agricultural feel
• Meeting sustainability targets
• Working respectfully within an established residential setting

On top of this, the build began shortly before the COVID‑19 pandemic, which brought:

• Trade shortages
• Material delays
• Increased costs

Despite these challenges, Steve and Ben led the project with resilience and precision.

“We sourced the latest sustainable technologies and materials, maintained strong relationships with contractors and suppliers, and kept the project on time and on target—all with minimal disruption, despite the impacts of Covid-19.”
