Our latest project, The Stockyard, is a true reflection of BoBen’s commitment to quality, precision, and efficient site management. Completed in just four months, this ambitious build highlights the power of planning, teamwork, and modern construction methods.

From Agricultural Barn to Bespoke Home

Set in the picturesque Leicestershire countryside, this 3,000 sq ft luxury home began life as a deteriorating agricultural pole barn made of weathered timber and corrugated metal. Today, it stands as a striking example of rural transformation, designed to blend seamlessly with its surroundings while embracing bold, contemporary design.

Large expanses of glazing frame the countryside views, while the structure itself is built using Structurally Insulated Panels (SIPs)glulam beamscharred timber claddingfarmscape roofinggabion stone walls, and aluminium-framed windows—a perfect balance of modern innovation and traditional materials.

Design Collaboration with HB Architects

Our long-standing partnership with HB Architects of Rugby continues to be a cornerstone of our success. Their vision and architectural expertise helped shape this project into something truly special, and we were proud to bring their design to life.

Materials & Methods: A Closer Look

Roofing & Cladding
Inspired by the original barn, we used Marley Farmscape roofing and matching elevations to echo the corrugated metal aesthetic. The charred timber cladding adds a bold, modern edge while offering natural protection against insects, mould, and weathering. Finished with anthracite powder-coated guttering and flashings, the exterior is both durable and visually striking.

SIPs Construction
Choosing SIPs over traditional building methods brought multiple advantages:

  • Exceptional airtightness due to sealed jointing systems
  • Continuous insulation across walls and roof
  • Reduced energy consumption and lower fuel costs
  • Faster build times and easier project management

Glulam Beams & Aluminium Windows
Internally, glulam beams and columns support the structure while enhancing the sense of space and light. These engineered timber elements are a sustainable, elegant alternative to steel or concrete. Floor-to-ceiling aluminium windows flood the home with natural light and offer energy efficiency with minimal maintenance.

Landscaping with Impact

The exterior landscaping is just as considered as the build itself. Gabion baskets filled with granite stone form a striking feature wall that will soften over time with planting. Large decorative slabs, a walkover water feature, and raised planters complete the outdoor space—designed to complement the home’s architectural lines and rural setting.
